Amandine Pizzagalli is a Technology & Market Analyst, Equipment & Materials - Semiconductor Manufacturing, at Yole Développement (Yole). Amandine is part of the development of the Semiconductor & Software division of Yole with the production of reports and custom consulting projects. She is in charge of comprehensive analyses focused on semiconductor equipment, materials and manufacturing processes.

Previously, Amandine worked as Process engineer on CVD and ALD processes for semiconductor applications at Air Liquide. Amandine was based in Japan during one year to manage these projects.

Amandine graduated from the engineering school, CPE Lyon (France), with a technical expertise in Semiconductor & Nano-Electronics and holds an electronics engineering degree followed by a master's in semiconductor manufacturing technology from KTH Royal institute of technology (Sweden).

She has spoken in numerous international conferences and has authored or co-authored more than 10 papers.

MicroLED technology could match or exceed LCD and OLEDs for most key display attributes. However, it is also an inherently complex technology. Manufacturing a 4K resolution display implies assembling and connecting 25 million MicroLED chips the size of large bacteria without a single error, with placement accuracy of 1 µm or less. Increasing numbers of companies are still focusing on realizing their first prototype, but the most advanced have realized that bringing up the technology from the level of functioning demo to consumer-grade products might require more effort than anticipated.

At the supply chain level, enabling large scale MicroLED displays requires bringing together three major disparate technologies and supply chain elements: LED, thin-film transistor (TFT) backplane and chip transfer. The supply chain is complex and lengthy compared with that of traditional displays. Each process is critical and managing every aspect effectively will be challenging.

In this talk, we will address the most recent MicroLED advances; we then take the opportunity to raise awareness about MiniLEDs in displays and see if they can disrupt the value proposition of current display technologies.
